How long can a person sustain protest and resistance? Música o Muerte (Music or Death) is a film punk essay on the revolt of an individual against a system, the price of freedom, and the power of music in this struggle.

The main character of the film is an aging Cuban rocker, Gorki, the frontman of the famous punk band Porno Para Ricardo, who has fought against the communist regime in his homeland for many years. We meet him when his resistance and protest have led to weariness and disappointment. Many dissidents have already given up their fight against the system; most have fled the country.
Gorki had never wanted to contemplate the possibility of escaping. He starts to flirt with the idea, imagining what his life could look like, for instance, in the United States, where many Cuban refugees live. Still, he wonders, is this the right moment to leave everything behind? Is it a betrayal of his people and of himself?
After many years of struggle, Gorki is about to make a decision of a lifetime. Through the protracted goodbye to his homeland, the film describes the plight of anti-regime activists, the poverty they endure, and the constant harassment and surveillance they face.
